As you can see from the map, Odawara City is situated along the coastline facing Sagami Bay, and naturally, it has a fishing port. What’s more, the amazing thing about Odawara Fishing Port is that it’s ‘the fishing port closest to public transport in Japan’! It’s about a one-minute walk from JR Hayakawa Station. Furthermore, as the fishing grounds are nearby, the fish can be landed whilst still fresh—which is another fantastic feature.
What’s more, the waters just off the coast of Odawara are so deep that they are counted amongst Japan’s three deepest bays, and are home to around 40 per cent of all fish species in Japan (approximately 1,600 species)!
These are the bounties of the sea, deliciously nourished by the abundant plankton flowing in from the mountains. Please do give them a try!

Odawara’s symbol is, without a doubt, Odawara Castle!
As it is visible from Odawara Station, first-time visitors may well be quite impressed. During the Warring States period, Odawara Castle was one of the largest in the country, defended by a 9-kilometre-long ring of moats and earthworks encircling the castle.
Furthermore, as you stroll through the town, you can reflect on its fascinating history: from its past as a thriving post town for travellers crossing the Hakone Mountains during the Edo period, to its prosperity in modern times thanks to the railway and the fishing industry.
